Departure Bay is a beautiful Oceanside community, centrally located in Nanaimo.  It is close to all amenities including shopping, Hospital, and recreation.

The Departure Bay neighbourhood gets its name from the beautiful large bay that it overlooks.

Departure Bay is the bay that BC Ferries sails into and is the major terminal that connects Central Vancouver Island to Vancouver.

Besides watching the ferries come and go; Departure Bay Beach is a wonderful family beach for swimming, launching a kayak, strolling, or eating an ice cream cone as you people watch.

There are several neighbourhoods located in the hills surrounding Departure Bay including: 

Lynburn, Cilaire, Rock City, Country Club and Sherwood Forest.

Many of the homes in Departure Bay offer stunning ocean views.

There are several nature parks in the area including:

Sugarloaf Mountain Park and Wood stream Park  

Departure Bay Centennial Park is a large scale destination park located across the street from the beach.  The park features include: tennis courts, playing fields for soccer and baseball as well as a wonderful water park.  The Departure Bay Activity Centre is located here as well.

Supporting the many families living in the area is Wellington Secondary which is particularly renowned for its jazz band.  Feeding into Wellington Secondary are the three Departure Bay Elementary schools; Cilaire, Departure Bay and Rock City.

There are two shopping Centres that service the Departure Bay community including Brooks Landing and Country Club Shopping Centre.

Housing choices in Departure Bay are predominantly single family homes with a small selection of condos and townhouses.
