City of Choice

Nanaimo has been considered an excellent city for people moving from other parts of the country. According to the City of Nanaimo “The population in the Regional District of Nanaimo was estimated at 162,727 in 2020. Based on future projections, strong population growth is expected to continue in the Nanaimo area.”

Location, Location

If you are looking for a central city that has easy access to both Vancouver and Victoria, Nanaimo leads the way for Vancouver Island Cities. It’s 1.5 hours drive from Victoria and depending on mode of transportation, very convenient to Vancouver. You can take a float plane, ferry or commercial flight and be in Vancouver in short order. It’s also only 1.25 hours to the Mt. Washington ski hill.

Driving Gets Easier

Rush hour is easy in Nanaimo. There is so much more time to enjoy what life has to offer by not needing to deal with commuter traffic. Nanaimo has two highways making your drive to-and-from work easy and fairly quick. Summer traffic is heavier than winter, spring and fall due to tourism but even then, it’s reasonable.

Affordability

A little-known secret, the natural appeal of Nanaimo is the affordability, and Nanaimo real estate is thriving. Prices have gone up considerably over the past twelve months, but prices are still far more affordable than Victoria and Vancouver. The variety of neighbourhoods allow home buyers so many options to choose from. Ocean front homes, view homes, lake and river front, rural acreages and family neighbourhoods are just some of the choices. Whether you're a family, retiree, or student looking for the very best Vancouver Island you should have many housing options in Nanaimo.

Living the 'Island' Life

Nanaimo is a recreational paradise. Life is slower and more relaxed here. You get the best of both worlds- all the amenities a good-sized city offers along with the beauty of beaches, hiking, swimming, boating along with the mild west coast climate.
